What is Plating?Fun Fact

What is Plating?
"Plating"is a general term for the process of depositing metal onto the surface of solids, including metals and non-metals.

Purposes of Plating
Plating is classified into "corrosion-resistant plating," "decorative plating," and "functional plating" based on its purposes. At our company, we specialize in "functional plating."
Corrosion-Resistant Plating
(such as zinc (Zn), tin (Sn), nickel (Ni) plating, etc.)
Its purpose is to prevent material corrosion and rust. The most widely used type of plating.

Decorative Plating
(including chromium (Cr), gold (Au), silver (Ag) plating, etc.)
It aims to enhance the appearance and provide decorative effects.
Alongside corrosion-resistant plating, it is one of the most common applications of plating.

Functional Plating
(gold (Au), silver (Ag), copper (Cu), tin (Sn), nickel (Ni))
It can impart functions such as durability and reliability, including electrical conductivity and solderability.

How is Plating Done?
There are various plating methods, but our company adopts the reel-to-reel plating plating method.

Mechanism of Plating
When an electric current is passed between the material and the anode plate in the plating solution, the metal ions dissolved in the solution are reduced on the surface of the material, and a metal film (plating coating) is formed on the material.
