Dowa Eco-System is expanding its consultation business, including environmental impact assessments and environment audits, and responding to a broad range of environmental needs.
Expand and upgrade existing bases to become the leading company in the field of waste treatment, soil remediation, and recycling, while establishing and acquiring new bases in Japan and overseas, to achieve continuous business expansion.
<Largest network in Japan>
The Dowa Group has the capability to provide integrated and comprehensive services, from collection and transport of waste through intermediate waste treatment such as incineration, to final disposal.
These services are provided by the Group’s four intermediate waste treatment facilities: Eco-System Akita Co., Ltd. in Odate City, Akita Prefecture; Eco-System Chiba Co., Ltd. in Sodegaura City, Chiba Prefecture; Eco-System Sanyo Co., Ltd. in Misaki Town, Okayama Prefecture; and Kowa Seiko Co., Ltd. in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
These facilities are linked by a nationwide distribution and marketing network, and comprise Japan’s largest waste treatment network. The technology and expertise accumulated at smelting plants is used in various ways in the waste treatment business to ensure safe, reliable waste treatment.
<One of the largest controlled landfills in Japan>
Dowa is promoting recycling, but an overemphasis on recycling can have the unintended consequence of increasing the burden on the environment. To safely manage waste that cannot be recycled further, Dowa Eco-System has a controlled landfill in northern part of Japan.
<Pursuing integrated operations from survey to remediation>
Public concern for soil remediation grows stronger with each passing year. When the Soil Contamination Countermeasures Law came into effect in 2003, soil surveys became mandatory when factory sites are converted to residential land, etc.
Dowa has been engaging in large-scale mining business both domestically and abroad. Developed from mining business, our exploratory technologies for ore bed, selecting technologies for minerals, plus basic facilities of mineral select factories and refining equipments for mining, are fully utilized for soil investigation and environmental services.
Dowa Eco-System can also deal with complex pollution involving such contaminants as heavy metals, oils, and VOCs. One of Dowa Eco-System’s strength is its capability to provide integrated services ranging from soil survey, remediation, to monitoring, boasting advanced capabilities in both the software and hardware used in this field.
<Waste collection marketing and consultation>
Eco-System Japan Co., Ltd. has a nationwide network of waste recycling bases, which recycle a wide range of materials from the waste generated by its customers, while offering the optimum waste treatment and transport methods.
In the area of consultation, E&E Solutions, Inc. provides a wide array of services, including environmental impact assessments, environment audits, soil contamination surveys, and site assessments. E&E has one of the best track records in the industry in the area of soil contamination surveys. Dowa Eco-System has an alliance with URS Corporation, the largest consulting firm in the U.S., to provide global consulting service coverage.
In the environmental business, reliable, professional collection and transport capabilities are indispensable. As a point of contact with customers, Eco-System Japan provides safe and most appropriate distribution and environmental risk control within the Group, using comprehensive distribution capabilities.
The Dowa Group has established a new business through the integration of smelting and recycling operations. Subject waste includes electronic equipment, mobile telephones, discarded consumer electronics and appliances, and junked automobiles.
For instance, shredder dust emitted in the junking of automobiles is processed in a metal steam recovery furnace, and copper and other metals recovered. At the same time, the vapor emitted is used effectively as a heat source in the smelting plant, and there are many other advantages.
<Metal recycling business>
Dowa Eco-System is engaged in the recovery of a variety of valuable metals from scrapped personal computer circuit boards, mobile telephones, consumer electronics and appliances, and other devices.
The DOWA Group has built one of Japan’s largest recycling networks, using the smelting technologies to process waste. In addition, Eco-System Recycling Co., Ltd. recovers gold and other precious metals from scrapped electronics materials and plating solutions. In response to the growth of business in China, Dowa has established a local subsidiary to expand its metal recycling business.
